Chapter 37: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Wear Clothes of Bark

खनित्रपिटके चोभे समानयत गच्छत।
चतुर्दश वने वासं वर्षाणि वसतो मम॥
khanitra-piṭake cobhe samānayata gacchata
caturdaśa vane vāsaṁ varṣāṇi vasato mama
khanitra-piṭake ca ubhe = a spade and a small basket 2; samānayata = and bring; gacchata = go; caturdaśa = for fourteen; vane vāsam = in the forest; varṣāṇi = years; vasataḥ = while I reside; mama = for Me [to use].
Go and bring a spade and a small basket for Me [to use] while I reside in the forest for fourteen years.1
1 This is Rāma’s request to the servants.
Rāma needed the spade to dig [the earth for roots and so on] and the small basket [to carry the fruits, roots and so on].
