Chapter 37: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Wear Clothes of Bark

स चीरे पुरुषव्याघ्रः कैकेय्याः प्रतिगृह्य ते।
सूक्ष्मवस्त्रमवक्षिप्य मुनिवस्त्राण्यवस्त ह॥
sa cīre puruṣa-vyāghraḥ kaikeyyāḥ pratigṛhya te
sūkṣma-vastram avakṣipya muni-vastrāṇy avasta ha
saḥ1 cīre = pieces of cloth made of bark; puruṣa-vyāghraḥ = Prince Rāma; kaikeyyāḥ = from Kaikeyī; pratigṛhya = accepted; te = two; sūkṣma-vastram = His fine clothing; avakṣipya = removed and; muni-vastrāṇi = the garments of a sage; avasta ha = put on.
Prince Rāma accepted two pieces of cloth made of bark from Kaikeyī, removed His fine clothing and put on the garments of a sage.

One piece of cloth made of bark was His upper garment and another His lower garment.
