Chapter 38: Rāma Requests the King to Take Care of His Mother Kausalyā

तेन तत्र प्रणादेन दुःखितः स महीपतिः।
चिच्छेद जीविते श्रद्धां धर्मे यशसि चात्मनः॥
tena tatra praṇādena duḥkhitaḥ sa mahī-patiḥ
ciccheda jīvite śraddhāṁ dharme yaśasi cātmanaḥ
tena = by that; tatra = then; praṇādena = loud lamentation; duḥkhitaḥ = distressed; saḥ = the; mahī-patiḥ = king; ciccheda = gave up; jīvite = for living; śraddhām = regard; dharme = piety; yaśasi = fame; ca = and; ātmanaḥ = his.
Distressed by that loud lamentation, the king then gave up his regard for living, piety and fame.
