Chapter 39: Kausalyā Instructs Sītā
Text 2.39.20
असत्यः सर्वलोकेऽस्मिन्सततं सत्कृताः प्रियैः।
भर्तारं नानुमन्यन्ते विनिपातगतं स्त्रियः॥
asatyaḥ sarva-loke ’smin satataṁ sat-kṛtāḥ priyaiḥ
bhartāraṁ nānumanyante vinipāta-gataṁ striyaḥ
asatyaḥ = unchaste; sarva-loke asmin = all over the world; satatam = constantly; sat-kṛtāḥ = [even when] they are honored; priyaiḥ = by sweet [words from him]; bhartāram = for their husband; na = not; anumanyante = do care; vinipāta-gatam = when he has fallen from an exalted status; striyaḥ = women.
All over the world, unchaste women do not care for their husband when has fallen from an exalted status, [even when] they are constantly honored by sweet [words from him].
