Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.1

अथ रामश्च सीता च लक्ष्मणश्च कृताञ्जलिः।
उपसङ्गृह्य राजानं चक्रुर्दीनाः प्रदक्षिणम्॥

atha rāmaś ca sītā ca lakṣmaṇaś ca kṛtāñjaliḥ
upasaṅgṛhya rājānaṁ cakrur dīnāḥ pradakṣiṇam

atha = then; rāmaḥ ca = Rāma; sītā ca = Sītā; lakṣmaṇaḥ = Lakṣmaṇa; ca = and; kṛta-añjaliḥ = joined their respective palms in supplication; upasaṅgṛhya = touched the feet of, offered him obeisances and; rājānam = the king; cakruḥ1 dīnāḥ = in distress; pradakṣiṇam = circumambulated him.

Then Rāma, Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa joined their respective palms in supplication, touched the feet of the king, offered him obeisances and circumambulated him in distress.

They were in distress that they did not have [the opportunity to] serve their mothers and father.
