Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.22
पार्श्वतः पृष्ठतश्चापि लम्बमानास्तदुन्मुखाः।
बाष्पपूर्णमुखाः सर्वे तमूचुर्भृशनिस्वनाः॥
pārśvataḥ pṛṣṭhataś cāpi lambamānās tad-unmukhāḥ
bāṣpa-pūrṇa-mukhāḥ sarve tam ūcur bhṛśa-nisvanāḥ
pārśvataḥ = by the chariot; pṛṣṭhataḥ = behind it; ca api = and; lambamānāḥ = running; tat-unmukhāḥ = looked at Rāma; bāṣpa-pūrṇa-mukhāḥ = their faces were full of tears; sarve = all of them; tam = to Sumantra; ūcuḥ = and they spoke; bhṛśa-nisvanāḥ = in loud voices [as follows].
Running by the chariot and behind it, all of them looked at Rāma. Their faces were full of tears and they spoke to Sumantra in loud voices [as follows].
