Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.23
संयच्छ वाजिनां रश्मीन्सूत याहि शनैः शनैः।
मुखं द्रक्ष्याम रामस्य दुर्दशं नो भविष्यति॥
saṁyaccha vājināṁ raśmīn sūta yāhi śanaiḥ śanaiḥ
mukhaṁ drakṣyāma rāmasya durdarśaṁ no bhaviṣyati
saṁyaccha = hold; vājinām = of the horses; raśmīn = the reins; sūta = Sūta; yāhi = go; śanaiḥ = slowly; śanaiḥ = slowly; mukham = face; drakṣyāma = we want to see; rāmasya = Rāma’s; durdarśam naḥ bhaviṣyati = it won’t be possible for us [to see Him].
Sūta, hold the reins of the horses! Go slowly, slowly! We want to see Rāma’s face. It won’t be possible for us [to see Him]!
