Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.49
रामस्य स वचः कुर्वन्ननुज्ञाप्य च तं जनम्।
व्रजतोऽपि हयाञ्शीघ्रं चोदयामास सारथिः॥
rāmasya sa vacaḥ kurvann anujñāpya ca taṁ janam
vrajato ’pi hayāñ śīghraṁ codayām āsa sārathiḥ
rāmasya = Rāma’s; saḥ = the; vacaḥ = instructions; kurvan = carried out; anujñāpya = had permit them [to leave]; ca = and; tam janam = those people surrounding Kausalyā; vrajataḥ api = running; hayān = his horses; śīghram = [run as] fast [as possible]; codayām āsa = he then had; sārathiḥ = charioteer.
The charioteer carried out Rāma’s instructions and had those people surrounding Kausalyā permit them [to leave]. He then had his running horses [run as] fast [as possible].
