Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.50
न्यवर्तत जनो राज्ञो रामं कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणम्।
मनसाप्यश्रुवेगैश्च न न्यवर्तत मानुषम्॥
nyavartata jano rājño rāmaṁ kṛtvā pradakṣiṇam
manasā apy aśru-vegaiś ca na nyavartata mānuṣam
kṛtvā pradakṣiṇam = having circumambulated; rāmam = Rāma; manasā = in their minds; rājñaḥ = the king’s; janaḥ = men; nyavartata = ceased [their endeavors to stop Him]; aśru-vegaiḥ ca = but by the force of their tears; na nyavartata = they couldn’t stop; api = just; mānuṣam = the public [from following Him].
Having circumambulated Rāma in their minds, the king’s men ceased [their endeavors to stop Him]. But by the force of their tears, they just couldn’t stop the public [from following Him].
