Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 41: Ayodhyā Suffers After Rāma’s Departure
Text 2.41.14
दिशः पर्याकुलाः सर्वास्तिमिरेणेव संवृताः।
न ग्रहो नापि नक्षत्रं प्रचकाशे न किञ्चन॥
diśaḥ paryākulāḥ sarvās timireṇeva saṁvṛtāḥ
na graho nāpi nakṣatraṁ pracakāśe na kiñcana
diśaḥ = the directions; paryākulāḥ = were disturbed; sarvāḥ = all; timireṇa = by darkness; iva = as if; saṁvṛtāḥ = covered over; na = neither; grahaḥ = the nine heavenly bodies; na api = nor; nakṣatram = a nakṣatra like the Aśvinī; pracakāśe = shone [in the sky]; na kiñcana = nor anything else.
All the directions were disturbed, as if covered over by darkness. Neither the nine heavenly bodies, nor a nakṣatra like the Aśvinī nor anything else shone [in the sky].
“Anything else” here refers to the seven sages, Dhruva and so on. None of them shone [in the sky].
GLOSS. There is no redundancy in this statement because these events took place after the disturbances [mentioned previously].
