Chapter 42: Daśaratha Goes to Kausalyā’s Residence in Distress
Text 2.42.14
वाहनानां च मुख्यानां वहतां तं ममात्मजम्।
पदानि पथि दृश्यन्ते स महात्मा न दृश्यते॥
vāhanānāṁ ca mukhyānāṁ vahatāṁ taṁ mamātmajam
padāni pathi dṛśyante sa mahātmā na dṛśyate
vāhanānām ca = horses; mukhyānām = of the excellent; vahatām = that are carrying; tam mama ātmajam = my son; padāni = the feet; pathi = on the path; dṛśyante = I see; saḥ = that; mahā-ātmā = great soul; na dṛśyate = but I don’t see.
I see the feet of the excellent horses that are carrying my son on the path, [but] I don’t see that great soul!
