Chapter 42: Daśaratha Goes to Kausalyā’s Residence in Distress
Text 2.42.30
पुत्रद्वयविहीनं च स्नुषयापि विवर्जितम्।
अपश्यद्भवनं राजा नष्टचन्द्रमिवाम्बरम्॥
putra-dvaya-vihīnaṁ ca snuṣayāpi vivarjitam
apaśyad bhavanaṁ rājā naṣṭa-candram ivāmbaram
putra-dvaya-vihīnam ca = was without his two sons; snuṣayā = of his daughter-in-law; api = and; vivarjitam = devoid; apaśyat = noticed that; bhavanam = his house; rājā = the king; naṣṭa-candram = devoid of the moon and stars; iva = it resembled; ambaram = the sky.
The king saw that his house was without his two sons and devoid of his daughter-in-law. It resembled the sky devoid of the moon and stars.
