Chapter 43: Kausalyā Laments for Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā
Text 2.43.19
न हि तावद्गुणैर्जुष्टं सर्वशास्त्रविशारदम्।
एकपुत्रा विना पुत्रमहं जीवितुमुत्सहे॥
na hi tāvad guṇair juṣṭaṁ sarva-śāstra-viśāradam
eka-putrā vinā putram ahaṁ jīvitum utsahe
na hi = not; tāvat = with all; guṇaiḥ = auspicious qualities; juṣṭam = He is endowed; sarva-śāstra-viśāradam = and is expert in all scriptures; eka-putrā = have only one son; vinā = without; putram = my son; aham = I; jīvitum = to live; utsahe = and I do want.
I have only one son and I do not want to live without my son. He is endowed with all auspicious qualities that exist and is expert in all scriptures.
