Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 45: The Brāhmaṇas from Ayodhyā Follow Rāma
Text 2.45.11

यथा यथा दाशरर्थिधर्म एव स्थितोऽभवत्।
तथा तथा प्रकृतयो रामं पतिमकामयन्॥

yathā yathā dāśarathir dharma eva sthito ’bhavat
tathā tathā prakṛtayo rāmaṁ patim akāmayan

yathā yathā = as much as; dāśarathiḥ = the son of Daśaratha; dharme eva = in the dharma of carrying out His father’s instructions; sthitaḥ = fixed; abhavat = became; tathā tathā prakṛtayaḥ = the subjects; rāmam = Rāma; patim = as their master; akāmayan = wanted.

The subjects wanted Rāma as their master as much as the son of Daśaratha became fixed in the dharma of carrying out His father’s instructions.

The subjects repeatedly desired, “The king first of all made You the crown prince to protect us. You and all of us should make this happen.”
