Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 46: Rāma Leaves the Brāhmaṇas to go to the Forest
Text 2.46.6
पितरं चानुशोचामि मातरं च यशस्विनीम्।
अपि वान्धौ भवेतां तु रुदन्तौ तावभीक्ष्णशः॥
pitaraṁ cānuśocāmi mātaraṁ ca yaśasvinīm
api vāndhau bhavetāṁ tu rudantau tāv abhīkṣṇaśaḥ
pitaram ca = for Our father; anuśocāmi = I lament; mātaram = My mother; ca = and; yaśasvinīm = illustrious; api vā = even; andhau = blind; bhavetām tu = could become; rudantau = by crying [for us]; tau = they; abhīkṣṇaśaḥ = constantly.
I lament for Our father and My illustrious mother. They could even become blind by constantly crying [for us]!
Despite this, there was hope. Rāma expresses this from the next verse.
