Chapter 47: The Brāhmaṇas Return to Ayodhyā in Distress
Text 2.47.3
ते विषादार्तवदना रहितास्तेन धीमता।
कृपणाः करुणा वाचो वदन्ति स्म मनस्विनः॥
te viṣādārta-vadanā rahitās tena dhīmatā
kṛpaṇāḥ karuṇā vāco vadanti sma manasvinaḥ
te viṣāda-ārta-vadanāḥ = their faces faded due to distress; rahitāḥ = without; tena = the; dhīmatā = intelligent Rāma; kṛpaṇāḥ = they appeared wretched; karuṇāḥ = sorrowful; vācaḥ = words; vadanti sma = spoke to each other; manasvinaḥ = those intelligent people.
Without the intelligent Rāma, their faces were faded due to distress. They appeared wretched. Those intelligent people spoke sorrowful words to each other.
