Chapter 47: The Brāhmaṇas Return to Ayodhyā in Distress
Text 2.47.13
ततो मार्गानुसारेण गत्वा किञ्चित्क्षणं पुनः।
मार्गनाशाद्विषादेन महता समभिप्लुताः॥
tato mārgānusāreṇa gatvā kiñcit kṣaṇaṁ punaḥ
mārga-nāśād viṣādena mahatā samabhiplutāḥ
tataḥ = then; mārga-anusāreṇa gatvā = they followed the path; kiñcit = for some distance; kṣaṇam = for a while; punaḥ = but; mārga-nāśāt = upon losing track of the path; viṣādena = dejection; mahatā = by great; samabhiplutāḥ = they became overwhelmed.
They then followed the path for some distance for a while. But upon losing track of the path, they became overwhelmed by great dejection.
It should be understood that they lost track of the path because the chariot had been driven over areas covered by creepers and abundant grass.
