Chapter 47: The Brāhmaṇas Return to Ayodhyā in Distress
Text 2.47.14
रथस्य मार्गनाशेन न्यवर्तन्त मनस्विनः।
किमिदं किं करिष्यामो दैवेनोपहता इति॥
rathasya mārga-nāśena nyavartanta manasvinaḥ
kim idaṁ kiṁ kariṣyāmo daivenopahatā iti
rathasya = taken by the chariot; mārga-nāśena = having lost track of the path; nyavartanta = returned; manasvinaḥ = those intelligent men; kim = what; idam = is this; kim = what; kariṣyāmaḥ = can we do [now]; daivena = by providence; upahatāḥ = baffled; iti = they lamented.
Having lost track of the path taken by the chariot, those intelligent men returned. They lamented, “What is this? Baffled by providence, what can we do [now]?”
