Chapter 48: The Ladies in Ayodhyā Lament
Text 2.48.32
तास्तथा विलपन्त्यस्तु नगरे नागरस्त्रियः।
चुक्रुशुर्दुःखसन्तप्ता मृत्योरिव भयागमे॥
tās tathā vilapantyas tu nagare nāgara-striyaḥ
cukruśur duḥkha-santaptā mṛtyor iva bhayāgame
tāḥ = those; tathā = thus; vilapantyaḥ tu = lamenting; nagare = in the city; nāgara-striyaḥ = women of Ayodhyā; cukruśuḥ = cried; duḥkha-santaptāḥ = tormented by sorrow; mṛtyoḥ = of [imminent] death; iva = just as; bhaya-āgame = [one would] when faced with the fear.
Lamenting thus, those women of Ayodhyā, tormented by sorrow, cried in the city just as [one would] when faced with the fear of [imminent] death.
