Text 2.49.1

रामोऽपि रात्रिशेषेण तेनैव महदन्तरम्।
जगाम पुरुषव्याघ्रः पितुराज्ञामनुस्मरन्॥

rāmo ’pi rātri-śeṣeṇa tenaiva mahad antaram
jagāma puruṣa-vyāghraḥ pitur ājñām anusmaran

rāmaḥ api = Rāma; rātri-śeṣeṇa tena eva = at the end of the [previous] night; mahat antaram = a great distance; jagāma = traveled; puruṣa-vyāghraḥ = Prince; pituḥ = His father’s; ājñām = order; anusmaran = remembering.

At the end of the [previous] night, remembering His father’s order, Prince Rāma traveled a great distance.

Sage Vālmīki then begins to describe Rāmacandra’s activities from this verse.

Śrī Rāma traveled a great distance at the end of the [previous] night when He left the residents of Ayodhyā.
