देवाक्रीडाशताकीर्णां देवोद्यानशतायुताम्।
देवार्थमाकाशगमां विख्यातां देवपद्मिनीम्॥
devākrīḍā-śatākīrṇāṁ devodyāna-śatāyutām
devārtham ākāśagamāṁ vikhyātāṁ deva-padminīm
deva-ākrīḍā-śata-ākīrṇām = Gaṅgā had hundreds of mountains fit for the devas on her banks; deva-udyāna-śata-āyutām = she had hundreds of gardens fit to be enjoyed by them; deva-artham = for their sake; ākāśagamām = she flowed in the skies; vikhyātām = she was famous; deva-padminīm = and had lotuses fit for them.
Gaṅgā had hundreds of mountains fit for the devas on her banks. She had hundreds of gardens fit to be enjoyed by them. She flowed in the skies for their sake and had lotuses fit for them. She was famous.1
1 It appears from this verse that the devas have a very refined sense of aesthetic enjoyment.
