तां शङ्करजटाजूटाद्भ्रष्टां सागरतेजसा।
समुद्रमहिषीं गङ्गां सारसक्रौञ्चनादिताम्।
आससाद महाबाहुः शृङ्गबेरपुरं प्रति॥
tāṁ śaṅkara-jaṭā-jūṭād bhraṣṭāṁ sāgara-tejasā
samudra-mahiṣīṁ gaṅgāṁ sārasa-krauñca-nāditām
āsasāda mahā-bāhuḥ śṛṅgaberapuraṁ prati
tām = her; śaṅkara-jaṭā-jūṭāt = Lord Śaṅkara’s long matted hair; bhraṣṭām = had fallen off; sāgara-tejasā = by the ascetic prowess of Bhagīratha; samudra-mahiṣīm = she was the queen of the ocean; gaṅgām = Gaṅgā; sārasa-krauñca-nāditām = and was filled with the sounds of sārasas and krauñcas; āsasāda = reached; mahā-bāhuḥ = the mighty-armed Rāma; śṛṅgaberapuram = to Śṛṅgaberapura; prati = on the way.
Gaṅgā had fallen off Lord Śaṅkara’s matted hair by the ascetic prowess of Bhagīratha. She was the queen of the ocean and was filled with the sounds of sārasas and krauñcas. The mighty-armed Rāma reached her on the way to Śṛṅgaberapura.
Sārasas here refers to certain birds that reside by lakes and which are distinct from the sārasa swans noted in text 19.
