Chapter 52: Rāma Crosses the Gaṅgā on Guha’s Boat
Text 2.52.23
शोकोपहतचेताश्च वृद्धश्च जगतीपतिः।
कामभारावसन्नश्च तस्मादेतद्ब्रुवीमि ते॥
śokopahata-cetāś ca vṛddhaś ca jagatī-patiḥ
kāma-bhārāvasannaś ca tasmād etad bravīmi te
śoka-upahata-cetāḥ ca = his mind is overcome by sorrow; vṛddhaḥ ca = he is old; jagatī-patiḥ = the king; kāma-bhāra-avasannaḥ ca = is dejected due to the burden of desire; tasmāt = therefore; etat = this; bravīmi = I tell; te = you.
His mind is overcome by sorrow. He is old. The king is dejected due to the burden of desire. Therefore I tell you this.
