Chapter 52: Rāma Crosses the Gaṅgā on Guha’s Boat
Text 2.52.57
चतुर्दश हि वर्षाणि सहितस्य त्वया वने।
क्षणभूतानि यास्यन्ति शतसङ्ख्यान्यतोऽन्यथा॥
caturdaśa hi varṣāṇi sahitasya tvayā vane
kṣaṇa-bhūtāni yāsyanti śata-saṅkhyāny ato ’nyathā
caturdaśa hi = fourteen; varṣāṇi = years; sahitasya tvayā = for me with you; vane = in the forest; kṣaṇa-bhūtāni = like a moment; yāsyanti = will pass; śata-saṅkhyāni ataḥ = they will be as if multiplied a hundred times over; anyathā = otherwise, in Your absence.
With You in the forest, fourteen years will pass like a moment for me. Otherwise, in Your absence, they will be as if multiplied a hundred times over.
