दशक्रोश इतस्तात गिरिर्यस्मिन्निवत्स्यसि।
महर्षिसेवितः पुण्यः सर्वतः सुखदर्शनः॥
गोलाङ्गुलानुचरितो वानरर्क्षनिषेवितः।
चित्रकूट इति ख्यातो गन्धमादनसंनिभः॥
daśa-krośa itas tāta girir yasmin nivatsyasi
maha-rṣi-sevitaḥ puṇyaḥ sarvataḥ sukha-darśanaḥ
golāṅgulānucarito vānara-rkṣa-niṣevitaḥ
citrakūṭa iti khyāto gandhamādana-sannibhaḥ
daśa-krośaḥ = is ten krośas; itaḥ = from here; tāta = dear Rāma; giriḥ = the mountain; yasmin = in which; nivatsyasi = You will reside; mahā-ṛṣi-sevitaḥ = it is resorted to by great sages; puṇyaḥ = it is pious; sarvataḥ = all around; sukha-darśanaḥ = and pleasant to see; golāṅgula-anucaritaḥ = Golāṅgulas roam around there; vānara-ṛkṣa-niṣevitaḥ = it is resorted to by monkeys and bears; citrakūṭaḥ iti = as Citrakūṭa; khyātaḥ = it is known; gandhamādana-sannibhaḥ = and it resembles Gandhamādana.
Dear Rāma, the mountain in which You will reside is ten krośas from here. It is resorted to by great sages. It is pious and pleasant to see all around. Golāṅgulas roam around there. It is resorted to by monkeys and bears. It is known as Citrakūṭa and it resembles Gandhamādana.
1 Here golāṅgulānucarito vānara-rkṣa-niṣevitaḥ can be considered to be in apposition to the invisible tvam as the subject of nivatsyati. It will then indicate then that Lord Rāmacandra will be followed by Golāṅgulas and that He will be the shelter of monkeys and bears. According to Wilson’s Sanskrit-English dictionary, golāṅgula is “a kind of monkey, described as of a black colour, and having a tail like a cow.”
The great sage Bharadvāja who knows the past, present and future has indicated here that Rāma’s assistants will be Golāṅgulas, monkeys and bears.1
