Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 55: Rāma Leaves Bharadvāja’s Āśrama and Crosses the Yamunā
Text 2.55.2

तेषां चैव स्वस्त्ययनं महर्षिः स चकार ह।
प्रस्थितांश्चैव तान्प्रेक्ष्य पिता पुत्रानिवान्वगात्॥

teṣāṁ caiva svasty-ayanaṁ maha-rṣiḥ sa cakāra ha
prasthitāṁś caiva tān prekṣya pitā putrān ivānvagāt

teṣām ca eva = for Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā-devī who were ready to depart; svasti-ayanam = auspiciousness; mahā-ṛṣiḥ saḥ = the great sage; cakāra ha = invoked; prasthitān ca eva = they were departing; tān = them; prekṣya = noticing that; pitā = a father follows; putrān = his [depating] sons; iva = like; anvagāt = he followed.

The great sage invoked auspiciousness for Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā-devī who were ready to depart. Noticing that they were departing, he followed them like a father follows his [departing] sons.

This is elaborated in the next verse.

In some manuscripts anvaśāt appears instead of anvagāt indicating that Bharadvāja instructed them on the route [to Citrakūṭa from his āśrama].
