Chapter 55: Rāma Leaves Bharadvāja’s Āśrama and Crosses the Yamunā
Text 2.55.16

तत्र श्रियमिवाचिन्त्यां रामो दाशरथिः प्रियाम्।
ईषत्संलज्जमानां तामध्यारोपयत प्लवम्॥

tatra śriyam ivācintyāṁ rāmo dāśarathiḥ priyām
īṣat-saṁlajjamānāṁ tām adhyāropayata plavam

tatra = then; śriyam iva acintyām = who was as inconceivably beautiful as Lakṣmī; rāmaḥ = Rāma; dāśarathiḥ = the son of Daśaratha; priyām = helped His beloved wife; īṣat-saṁlajjamānām tām = she was slightly embarrassed; adhyāropayata = climb; plavam = on the raft.

Rāma, the son of Daśaratha, then helped His beloved wife, who was as inconceivably beautiful as Lakṣmī, climb on the raft.1 She was slightly embarrassed.

Sītā-devī was slightly embarrassed as her beloved husband held her hand and it was needed at that moment.1

1 Technical note: tatra tasmin samaye.

1 She also had to sit on the raft alone.
