Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.9
सुमन्त्रमभियान्तं तं शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः।
क्क राम इति पृच्छन्तः सुतमभ्यद्रवन्नराः॥
sumantram abhiyāntaṁ taṁ śataśo ’tha sahasraśaḥ
kva rāma iti pṛcchantaḥ sūtam abhyadravan narāḥ
sumantram = Sumantra; abhiyāntam = was driving along; tam = who; śataśaḥ = by the hundreds; atha sahasraśaḥ = and the thousands; kva = where is; rāmaḥ iti = Rāma; pṛcchantaḥ = asking; sūtam = the charioteer; abhyadravat = ran towards; narāḥ = men.
Men by the hundreds and the thousands asking “Where is Rāma?” ran towards the charioteer Sumantra who was driving along.
