Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.10
तेषां शशंस गङ्गायामहमापृच्छय राघवम्।
अनुज्ञातो निवृत्तोऽस्मि धार्मिकेण महात्मना॥
teṣāṁ śaśaṁsa gaṅgāyām aham āpṛcchya rāghavam
anujñāto nivṛtto ’smi dhārmikeṇa mahātmanā
teṣām = them; śaśaṁsa = he told; gaṅgāyām = on the bank of Gaṅgā [what I should do]; aham = I; āpṛcchya = asked; rāghavam = Rāghava; anujñātaḥ = and then with the permission; nivṛttaḥ asmi = I came back; dhārmikeṇa = of that dhārmika; mahā-ātmanā = great soul.
He told them, “I asked Rāghava on the bank of Gaṅgā [what I should do] and then with the permission of that dhārmika great soul I came back.”
