Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.27
ततोऽन्तःपुरमाविद्धं मूर्च्छिते पृथिवीपतौ।
उद्धृत्य बाहू चुक्रोश नृपतौ पतिते क्षितौ॥
tato ’ntaḥ-puram āviddhaṁ mūrcchite pṛthivī-patau
uddhṛtya bāhū cukrośa nṛpatau patite kṣitau
tataḥ1 antaḥ-puram = the inner quarters; āviddham = became overwhelmed with sorrow; mūrcchite = fainted; pṛthivī-patau = when the king; uddhṛtya = they lifted; bāhū = their arms; cukrośa = and wailed in lamentation; nṛpatau = and when the king; patite = fell; kṣitau = onto the ground.
When the king fainted, the inner quarters became overwhelmed with sorrow. And when the king fell onto the ground, they lifted their arms and wailed in lamentation.
