Chapter 58: Sumantra Conveys the Message of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.58.9
सुकुमार्या तपस्विन्या सुमन्त्र सह सीतया।
राजपुत्रौ कथं पादैरवरुह्य रथाद्गतौ॥
sukumāryā tapasvinyā sumantra saha sītayā
rāja-putrau kathaṁ pādair avaruhya rathād gatau
sukumāryā = who is very tender; tapasvinyā = and austere; sumantra = Sumantra; saha sītayā = with Sītā; rāja-putrau = the two princes; katham = how did; pādaiḥ = on feet; avaruhya = get down; rathāt = from the chariot; gatau = and walk.
Sumantra, how did the two princes get down from the chariot and walk on feet with Sītā who is very tender and austere?
