Chapter 58: Sumantra Conveys the Message of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.58.17
माता च मम कौसल्या कुशलं चाभिवादनम्।
अप्रमादं च वक्तव्या ब्रूयाश्चैनामिदं वचः॥
mātā ca mama kausalyā kuśalaṁ cābhivādanam
apramādaṁ ca vaktavyā brūyāś cainām idaṁ vacaḥ
mātā ca = mother; mama = to My; kausalyā = Kausalyā-devī; kuśalam ca = enquire about her welfare; abhivādanam = My respectful obeisances; apramādam = her attentiveness to dharma; ca = and; vaktavyā = convey; brūyāḥ = tell; ca = also; enām = her; idam vacaḥ = the following.
Convey to My mother Kausalyā-devī My respectful obeisances, enquire about her welfare and her attentiveness to dharma. Also tell her the following.
Apramādam also indicates that Rāma enquired about His mother Kausalyā’s attentiveness to her husband.
