Chapter 58: Sumantra Conveys the Message of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.58.35
अदृष्टपूर्वव्यसना राजपुत्री यशस्विनी।
तेन दुःखेन रुदती नैव मां किञ्चिदब्रवीत्॥
adṛṣṭa-pūrva-vyasanā rāja-putrī yaśasvinī
tena duḥkhena rudatī naiva māṁ kiñcid abravīt
adṛṣṭa-pūrva-vyasanā = had never experienced a calamity in the past; rāja-putrī = as a daughter of a king; yaśasvinī = Sītā of good fame; tena duḥkhena = in distress; rudatī = she was crying in distress upon seeing her husband in distress; na eva = she didn’t; mām = me; kiñcit = anything; abravīt = tell.
As a daughter of a king, Sītā of good fame had never experienced a calamity in the past. She was crying in distress upon seeing her husband in distress. She didn’t tell me anything.
Sītā-devī was of good fame, that is, even in those circumstances she had not been criticized by Kaikeyī.
