Chapter 59: Sumantra Describes the Agony of all Creatures in the Country
Text 2.59.15
देव राजरथं दृष्ट्वा विना राममिहागतम्।
दुःखादश्रुमुखः सर्वो राजमार्गगतो जनः॥
deva rāja-rathaṁ dṛṣṭvā vinā rāmam ihāgatam
duḥkhād aśru-mukhaḥ sarvo rāja-mārga-gato janaḥ
deva = O lord; rāja-ratham = the royal chariot; dṛṣṭvā = noticing; vinā = without; rāmam = Rāma; iha = here; āgatam = arriving; duḥkhāt = out of sorrow; aśru-mukhaḥ = the face became filled with tears; sarvaḥ rāja-mārga-gataḥ janaḥ = of everyone on the grand road.
O lord, noticing the royal chariot arriving here without Rāma, the face of everyone on the grand road became filled with tears out of sorrow.
