Chapter 61: Kausalyā Condemns Daśaratha in Extreme Distress
Text 2.61.5

भुक्त्वाशनं विशालाक्षी सूपदंशान्वितं शुभम्।
वन्यं नैवारमाहारं कथं सीतोपभोक्ष्यते॥

bhuktvāśanaṁ viśālākṣī sūpadaṁśānvitaṁ śubham
vanyaṁ naivāram āhāraṁ kathaṁ sītopabhokṣyate

bhuktvā = having eaten; aśanam = food; viśāla-akṣī = the long-eyed; sūpadaṁśa-anvitam = with fine vegetables; śubham = nice; vanyam = roots in the forest; naivāram āhāram = and food produced from the nīvāra plant; katham = how can; sītā = Sītā; upabhokṣyate = eat.

Having eaten nice food with fine vegetables, how can the long-eyed Sītā eat roots in the forest and food produced from the nīvāra plant?
