भोजयन्ति किल श्राद्धे केचित्स्वानेव बान्धवान्।
ततः पश्चात्समीक्षन्ते कृतकार्या द्विजर्षभान्॥
तत्र ये गुणवन्तश्च विद्वांसश्च द्विजातयः।
न पश्चात्तेऽभिमन्यन्ते सुधामपि सुरोपमाः।।
bhojayanti kila śrāddhe kecit svān eva bāndhavān
tataḥ paścāt samīkṣante kṛta-kāryā dvija-rṣabhān
tatra ye guṇavantaś ca vidvāṁsaś ca dvi-jātayaḥ
na paścāt te ’bhimanyante sudhām api suropamāḥ
bhojayanti = feed; kila = indeed; śrāddhe = during a śrāddha ceremony; kecit = some; svān eva = their own; bāndhavān = relatives; tataḥ paścāt = and then; samīkṣante = they think; kṛta-kāryāḥ = once that is over; dvija-ṛṣabhān = about excellent brāhmaṇas; tatra = at that time; ye = who are; guṇavantaḥ ca = excellent in occupation; vidvāṁsaḥ = learning; ca = or; dvi-jātayaḥ = age; na = do not; paścāt = when it is served later on; te = those; abhimanyante = accept; sudhām = nectarean food; api = even; sura-upamāḥ = being as worshippable as the devas.
Indeed some feed their own relatives during a śrāddha ceremony and then once that is over they think about excellent brāhmaṇas. At that time those who are excellent in occupation, learning or age being as worshippable as the devas do not accept even nectarean food when it is served later on.
She now illustrates that Rāma will not enjoy the kingdom even if it is given by Bharata since it would have [already] been enjoyed by Bharata.
In this world, some brāhmaṇas feed their own relatives even though there are vipras superior [to those relatives] in learning, occupation and age. After the śrāddha ceremony is over, such brāhmaṇas who conduct it desire to feed these vipras superior to their own relatives. But such vipras do not honor the food given to them even if it is as good as nectar.
The food that is served to brāhmaṇas after serving śūdras is forbidden for them [in the scriptures], but this food isn’t forbidden. Then why don’t they honor that food? That is stated in the next verse.
