Chapter 62: Kausalyā Pacifies Daśaratha
Text 2.62.13
नैषा हि सा स्त्री भवति श्लाघनीयेन धीमता।
उभयोर्लोकयोर्वीर पत्या या संप्रसाद्यते॥
naiṣā hi sā strī bhavati ślāghanīyena dhīmatā
ubhayor lokayor vīra patyā yā samprasādyate
na = nothing; eṣā hi sā strī = the woman; bhavati = attains; ślāghanīyena = who is himself meant to be appeased; dhīmatā = by an intelligent; ubhayoḥ lokayoḥ = in this life and the next; vīra = O hero; patyā = husband; yā = who is; samprasādyate = appeased.
O hero, the woman who is appeased by an intelligent husband who is himself meant to be appeased attains nothing in this life and the next.
Such a woman “attains nothing in this life and the next,” that is, she attains no happiness in this life and in the next.
