Chapter 62: Kausalyā Pacifies Daśaratha
Text 2.62.16

शक्य आपतितः सोढुं प्रहारो रिपुहस्ततः।
सोढुमापतितः शोकः सुसूक्ष्मोऽपि न शक्यते॥

śakya āpatitaḥ soḍhuṁ prahāro ripu-hastataḥ
soḍhum āpatitaḥ śokaḥ susūkṣmo ’pi na śakyate

śakyaḥ = one can; āpatitaḥ = suddenly; soḍhum = tolerate; prahāraḥ = a weapon; ripu-hastataḥ = [thrown at him] from the hand of the enemy; soḍhum = tolerate; āpatitaḥ = given [to him by destiny]; śokaḥ = sorrow; susūkṣmaḥ = very slight; api = even; na śakyate = but one cannot.

One can tolerate a weapon suddenly [thrown at him] from the hand of an enemy, [but] one cannot tolerate even very slight sorrow given [to him by destiny].1
