Chapter 63: Daśaratha Remembering Killing a Sage’s Innocent Son

क्लिन्नपक्षोत्तराः स्नाताः कृच्छ्रादिव पतत्रिणः।
वृष्टिवातावधूताग्रान्पादपानभिपेदिरे॥
klinna-pakṣottarāḥ snātāḥ kṛcchrād iva patatriṇaḥ
vṛṣṭi-vātāvadhūtāgrān pādapān abhipedire
klinna-pakṣa-uttarāḥ = the upper portion of the wings were wet; snātāḥ = to have bathed; kṛcchrāt = with difficulty; iva = and so they appeared; patatriṇaḥ = of the birds; vṛṣṭi-vāta-avadhūta-agrān = whose leaves trembled due to the rain and wind; pādapān = on trees; abhipedire = they even perched.
The upper portion of the wings of birds were wet and so they appeared to have bathed. With difficulty they even perched on trees whose leaves trembled due to the rain and wind.
The birds perched on the trees with difficulty because their wings had become wet.
GLOSS. Kṛcchrād iva indicates that these birds resembled those who had bathed to carry out difficult vows [of atonement].
