Chapter 63: Daśaratha Remembering Killing a Sage’s Innocent Son
Text 2.63.28

प्रविविक्तां नदीं रात्रावुदाहारोऽहमागतः।
इषुणाभिहतः केन कस्य वा किं कृतं मया॥

praviviktāṁ nadīṁ rātrāv udāhāro ’ham āgataḥ
iṣuṇābhihataḥ kena kasya vā kiṁ kṛtaṁ mayā

praviviktām = to this especially lonely; nadīm = river; rātrau = when the night was getting over; udāhāraḥ = to fetch water; aham = I; āgataḥ = came here; iṣuṇā = by an arrow; abhihataḥ = and I have been shot; kena = who has done this; kasya = to anyone; kim = what wrong; kṛtam mayā = did I do.

“I came here to this especially lonely river when the night was getting over to fetch water and I have been shot by an arrow! Who has done this? What wrong did I do to anyone?
