Text 2.63.34
वृद्धौ च मातापितरावहं चैकेषुणा हतः।
केन स्म निहताः सर्वे सुबालेनाकृतात्मना।।
vṛddhau ca mātā-pitarāv ahaṁ caikeṣuṇā hataḥ
kena sma nihatāḥ sarve subālenākṛtātmanā
vṛddhau ca = my old; mātā-pitarau = mother and father; aham = I; ca = and; eka-iṣuṇā = by a single arrow; hataḥ = have been killed; kena = why have; sma nihatāḥ = been killed; sarve = we; subālena = by a very immature person; akṛta-ātmanā = of unsteady intelligence.
“My old mother and father and I have been killed by a single arrow. Why have we been killed by a very immature person of unsteady intelligence?[1
1 Kena sma nihatāḥ sarve literally means, “Why have all of us been killed?”
[The ascetic] has asserted here that everyone has been killed because his mother and father were living [only] because of him and his death [would cause them to die].
