जलार्द्रगात्रं तु विलप्य कृच्छ्रान्मर्मव्रणं संततमुच्छ्वसन्तम्।
ततः सरय्वां तमहं शयानं समीक्ष्य भद्रेऽस्मि भृशं विषण्णः॥
jalārdra-gātraṁ tu vilapya kṛcchrān
marma-vraṇaṁ santatam ucchvasantam
tataḥ sarayvāṁ tam ahaṁ śayānaṁ
samīkṣya bhadre ’smi bhṛśaṁ viṣaṇṇaḥ
jala-ārdra-gātram tu = his body was wet with water with water of the Sarayū; vilapya = I lamented for him; kṛcchrāt = with great difficulty; marma-vraṇam = his heart had been pierced; santatam = constantly; ucchvasantam = he had been breathing; tataḥ = and; sarayvām = on the bank of Sarayū; tam aham śayānam samīkṣya = seeing him lie; bhadre = O auspicious lady; asmi = I; bhṛśam = greatly; viṣaṇṇaḥ = became despondent.
O auspicious lady, I lamented for him. His body was wet with water of the Sarayū. He had been breathing constantly with great difficulty. His heart had been pierced and seeing him lie on the bank of Sarayū I became greatly despondent.

This reiterates the [earlier verse]. Marma-vraṇam indicates that the faculty of breathing had been pierced [in that ascetic ‘s body].
