Text 2.64.2
तदज्ञानान्महत्पापं कृत्वाहं सङ्कुलेन्द्रियः।
एकस्त्वचिन्तयं बुद्ध्या कथं नु सुकृतं भवेत्॥
tad-ajñānān mahat pāpaṁ kṛtvāhaṁ saṅkulendriyaḥ
ekas tv acintayaṁ buddhyā kathaṁ nu sukṛtaṁ bhavet
tat-ajñānāt = ignorantly; mahat = a great; pāpam = sin; kṛtvā = committed; aham = because I had; saṅkula-indriyaḥ = my senses were agitated; ekaḥ tu = alone; acintayam = I pondered; buddhyā = with my intelligence; katham nu = about how; sukṛtam bhavet = I could do good [under these circumstances].
My senses were agitated because I had ignorantly committed a great sin. With my intelligence, I pondered alone about how I could do good [under these circumstances].
“Will informing [the young ascetic’s parents] or not informing them about how I killed him lead to auspiciousness?” This was in Daśaratha’s mind.
