Chapter 64: Daśaratha Gives up his Life in Remembrance of Lord Rāma

शोकोपहतचित्तश्च भयसंत्रस्तचेतनः।
तच्चाश्रमपदं गत्वा भूयः शोकमहं गतः॥
śokopahata-cittaś ca bhaya-santrasta-cetanaḥ
tac cāśrama-padaṁ gatvā bhūyaḥ śokam ahaṁ gataḥ
śoka-upahata-cittaḥ = my mind was [already] overcome by lamentation; ca = and; bhaya-santrasta-cetanaḥ tat = it was terrified by fear; ca = and; āśrama-padam = the āśrama; gatvā = when I reached; bhūyaḥ = again; śokam = with anxiety; aham = I; gataḥ = became filled.
My mind was [already] overcome by lamentation and it was terrified by fear and so when I reached the āśrama I again became filled with anxiety.
Daśaratha’s mind had already become overcome by distress. He again became filled with anxiety upon seeing the [elderly couple].
GLOSS. Daśaratha became filled with greater anxiety [upon seeing the elderly couple].
