Chapter 64: Daśaratha Gives up his Life in Remembrance of Lord Rāma

तिष्ठ मा मा गमः पुत्र यमस्य सदनं प्रति।
श्वो मया सह गन्तासि जनन्या च समेधितः॥
tiṣṭha mā mā gamaḥ putra yamasya sadanaṁ prati
śvo mayā saha gantāsi jananyā ca samedhitaḥ
tiṣṭha = wait for me; mā = don’t; mā = don’t; gamaḥ = go; putra = my son; yamasya = of Yamarāja; sadanam prati = to the abode; śvaḥ = tomorrow; mayā saha = with me; gantā asi = you can go; jananyā = your mother; ca = and; samedhitaḥ = with.
My son, wait for me. Don’t, don’t go to the abode of Yamarāja. You can go with me and your mother tomorrow.
GLOSS. Mā mā gamaḥ (“don’t, don’t go”) indicates that [the ascetic] was in excessive distress.
