Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 64: Daśaratha Gives up his Life in Remembrance of Lord Rāma
Text 2.64.59

एवं शापं मयि न्यस्य विलप्य करुणं बहु।
चितामारोप्य देहं तन्मिथुनं स्वर्गमभ्ययात्॥

evaṁ śāpaṁ mayi nyasya vilapya karuṇaṁ bahu
citām āropya dehaṁ tan mithunaṁ svargam abhyayāt

evam = this; śāpam = curse; mayi = on me; nyasya = having placed; vilapya = and having lamented; karuṇam = piteously; bahu = a lot; citām = on the funeral pyre; āropya = placed; deham = their bodies; tat mithunam = the couple; svargam = for Svarga; abhyayāt = and departed.

Having placed this curse on me and having piteously lamented a lot, the couple placed their bodies on the funeral pyre and departed for Svarga.

Deham (literally “their body”) indicates that when [the elderly couple] ascended the funeral pyre, they tightly embraced each other.
