Śabda-vedhy-anukarṣiṇā also indicates that Daśaratha had shot his arrow targeting the source of a particular sound and then he removed the arrow that had entered into the body of that person [who was the source of the sound]. Daśaratha had been thinking, “What is the root cause of my distress in the form of separation from my son that is culminating in my death?” He then remembered this sin, that is , the murder of the son of the sage.

GLOSS. Smṛtaṁ pāpaṁ mayā smṛtam indicates that Daśaratha himself remembered this sin—he was not reminded of it by someone else.
