Chapter 64: Daśaratha Gives up his Life in Remembrance of Lord Rāma

तस्यादर्शनजः शोकः सुतस्याप्रतिकर्मणः।
उच्छोषयति मे प्राणान्वारि स्तोकमिवातपः।।
tasyādarśanajaḥ śokaḥ sutasyāpratikarmaṇaḥ
ucchoṣayati me prāṇān vāri stokam ivātapaḥ
tasya1 adarśanajaḥ = born of not seeing; śokaḥ = the distress; sutasya = my son; apratikarmaṇaḥ = unassailable; ucchoṣayati = dries up; me = my; prāṇān = life airs; vāri = of water; stokam = a small amount 7; iva = like; ātapaḥ = the sun [that dries up].
The distress born of not seeing my unassailable son dries up my life airs like the sun [that dries up] a small amount of water.1
