Chapter 64: Daśaratha Gives up his Life in Remembrance of Lord Rāma

न ते मनुष्या देवास्ते ये चारुशुभकुण्डलम्।
सुखं द्रक्ष्यन्ति रामस्य वर्षे पञ्चदशे पुनः॥
na te manuṣyā devās te ye cāru-śubha-kuṇḍalam
mukhaṁ drakṣyanti rāmasya varṣe pancadaśe punaḥ
na = not; te = they are; manuṣyāḥ = humans; devāḥ te = but devas; ye = who; cāru-śubha-kuṇḍalam = which is beautiful with auspicious earrings; mukham = face; drakṣyanti = will see; rāmasya = Rāma’s; varṣe = year; pancadaśe = on the fifteenth; punaḥ = again.
They are not humans but devas who will again see Rāma’s face, which is beautiful with auspicious earrings, on the fifteenth year.
Those who see Rāma are not human beings that is endowed with old age, rather they are devas that is eternally youthful.
He had already stated:
ahaṁ punar deva-kumāra-rūpaṁ
alaṅkṛtaṁ taṁ sutam āvrajantam
nandāmi paśyann api darśanena
bhavāmi dṛṣṭvā ca punar yuveva
“But when I think of that decorated son of mine whose form is like that of a demigod’s son coming [to me], I become happy. In fact, I become youthful again when I see Him [thus].” (Rāmāyaṇa 2.12.106)
Cāru-śubha-kuṇḍalam indicates that His earrings became extremely beautiful by contact with His face.
