“Auspicious items” refers to oil for smearing over the body that brought about auspiciousness. Some say that maṅgalālambhanīyāni indicates that a cow and items that grant auspiciousness upon being touched [were brought]. Prāśanīyāni indicates that mouthwash and specific medicines containing crushed sesame, coconut and cumin seeds [were brought]. It also indicates that the holy water of Gaṅgā and the caraṇāmṛta of Śrī Raṅganātha, his family deity, were brought. By honoring this caranāmṛta, all of his difficulties could be eradicated and he would be able to carry out his duties. “Other ingredients” indicates that a mirror, clothes, ornaments, flowers and so on were brought.
